Zumbathon
Nicky Wheeler and her sister Louise, from Tunbridge Wells, organised a three hour Zumbathon one Sunday afternoon raising over £3000 for QVH.
Louise’s little boy Jack had an accident with a lawn mower when he was nine, losing his big toe. He had a seven hour operation to attempt to reattach it at QVH. Louise thought all the staff at QVH were amazing and wanted to do something to say thank you and to recognise the difference that they make.
Nicky says that everyone in the area knows that if you have a serious burn or a nasty accident you’re likely to go to QVH, so wanted to do something that would benefit local people.
“Everybody loved the Zumbathon and all the ladies managed to last the three hours. Everyone thought it was brilliant fun and great to be doing something so worthwhile for QVH.
“About 80 people took part in the event, paying a £10 entry fee which covered the cost of hiring the sports hall. The balance of the entry fee proceeds, and sponsorship money raised, was donated to QVH.”
Zumbathon is a trademark, so if you hold an event you need to be a trained instructor and to get approval from www.zumba.com, although this is a very straightforward process. You just need to e-mail them.
