Three East Grinstead businessmen – Steve Rogers from Penny Farthing Jewellers, Chris Tomlinson from CJ`S and Nick Hubsch from Treefrog – organise the High Street Challenge, a charity golf day for QVH’s children’s ward.
After Steve’s daughter Caitlin (7) was in the hospital’s Peanut ward for a mouth operation they had the idea that televisions in patient rooms would really help put the children at ease when they are waiting for operations and recovering.
With 10 other local businesses, a selection of donated prizes and events, and reduced golf rates at local Sweetwoods Park, they encouraged other local businesses to attend, raising money through a raffle and auction in the evening. Tickets were sold in local shops before the event.“Our August 2011 event was a great day out and it was rewarding to raise money for a good cause at the same time. It takes a lot of organisation, but it was great to see the benefit of what we had achieved.“We held our second event in July 2012, raising £3,500, and are working with the ward to agree what the money will be used for.”
